While Black Widow’s Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) returns to Marvel’s Hawkeye, why does she want to murder Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner)? Hawkeye episode 4: Yelena Belova assaults Clint Barton and Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) while on a quest to acquire a vital item. Furthermore, it’s evident that the former Russian assassin intends to assassinate Hawkeye, prompting Clint to dissolve his collaboration with Kate Bishop in order to keep her safe. Natasha Romanoff reconnected with her sister Yelena and their parents in “Black Widow” as they fought to bring down the Red Room once and for all. In the end, they were able to save many of the women who had been indoctrinated and converted into weapons by General Dreykov in the same way that they had been. While the majority of the film takes place prior to Avengers: Infinity War, the film’s post-credits sequence shows Yelena mourning her sister after her death in Avengers: Endgame. Now it appears that Yelena is resolved to pursue retribution against Clint Barton. But who sent her to Hawkeye, and what does Yelena know about her sister’s death? What is achieved by assassinating a retired Avenger?

How Black Widow Made Hawkeye Yelena’s Target?

Yelena Belova is seen visiting Natasha’s grave in the post-credits sequence of Black Widow. Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, however, interrupts her sorrow (played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus). During their conversation, Yelena reveals that she works for the Contessa, who chose to deliver the former Widow to her next victim directly. Clint Barton’s Hawkeye is the target in question, and the Contessa names him as “the man responsible” for Romanoff’s killing. Despite Clint’s best attempts to donate his life instead, it’s unknown if Val is aware of all that occurred during Vormir and Natasha’s sacrifice in Endgame. If she does know, she doesn’t inform Yelena, instead vilifying Hawkeye in order to launch the White Widow on a revenge mission. Clint Barton’s reckoning with Yelena appears to have finally arrived in Hawkeye.

The conclusion of Black Widow establishes Yelena’s new team:

The post-credits sequence in Black Widow also shows that Yelena and Contessa Valentina are part of a larger organization, since Valentina agreed with Yelena about requesting a promotion, implying that they both work for someone higher up the chain of command. Furthermore, Valentina can be seen recruiting John Walker’s U.S. Agent at the conclusion of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, implying that Yelena isn’t their only operative. It’s commonly assumed that Valentina is assembling a band of Dark Avengers for some unknown reason. If this is accurate, Yelena would be the ideal choice to serve as Black Widow’s counterpart, much as John Walker would be the team’s Captain America. While there will certainly be more agents introduced as the MCU unfolds, why does the Contessa’s organization want Hawkeye dead?

Why Does Val Require Hawkeye’s Death?

Whatever Contessa Valentina and her crew are up to, they plainly need Clint Barton gone, so they send Yelena to murder him with a vengeance to make sure the job is done. As things stand, their main worry is going to be Barton’s time as the Ronin rather than his time as an Avenger. During Thanos’ five-year Decimation, Ronin relentlessly worked in the world’s darkest corners, administering fatal justice and leaving a trail of foes in his wake. It’s probable that the Contessa and her organization are among those foes, fearful that Barton’s continuing presence may jeopardize their plans. Regardless of the cause, the Contessa’s wish to have Hawkeye assassinated reveals a lot about who she is and the motives of the organization she works for. Based on what we’ve seen so far in the MCU, she appears to be a darker version of Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, working for a shadowy mirror version of SHIELD with their own ideas about how the world should be saved and protected, though they may not be the most ethical or moral, thus their secrecy.

Hawkeye Sets Up A Re-Enactment Of The Black Widow’s Origin Here’s Why:

Looking ahead to the MCU’s future, it appears like Clint Barton and Yelena Belova will be squaring up very soon, despite Belova leaving the combat when Kate Bishop got the drop on her in Hawkeye episode 4. Furthermore, it’s unclear if Clint will be able to explain to the White Widow what happened on Vormir with the Soul Stone, as well as his great remorse that he wasn’t able to sacrifice himself before Natasha did. While Yelena doesn’t appear to be in the mood to converse, she might be greeted with the same scenario Clint had when he first met Natasha’s Black Widow in Budapest. Clint told Kate before their fight with Yelena that the finest shot he ever took was “the one he didn’t shoot,” referring to his saving Natasha’s life. Despite his instructions to kill her, Clint opted to give Natasha a second opportunity, guiding her through her dark background as a Russian assassin to become a SHIELD agent and, eventually, an Avenger. Will Yelena Belova, in Marvel’s Hawkeye, take the shot when she has the opportunity, or will she learn of her sister’s sacrifice as a hero and opt to save Clint’s life? Yelena’s choosing to let Clint survive despite his horrible background would definitely be an interesting way for Yelena to commemorate Natasha’s roots, especially given Hawkeye’s immensely crucial role in Black Widow’s existence. In any event, let’s hope Kate Bishop can persuade Clint that he still needs a partner, especially now that Yelena has become involved on top of everything else they’re dealing with.
