“You also don’t want to be a fanboy”: Breaking Bad Actor Bryan Cranston Had a Tough Time Accepting Compliment From Legendary Actor Anthony Hopkins

Bryan Cranston has a wild fan following. The Emmy award winner became a global sensation with his work in the wildly popular and successful show Breaking Bad, which even won him the prestigious award. Despite having achieved so much, even Heisenberg himself can get giddy and starstruck. It makes an unfitting and unbelievable image indeed but a true one, as Cranston himself revealed recently. And the legend whom he was gushing over was none other than Anthony Hopkins.

Bryan Cranston recently gave an interview to PEOPLE for its latest issue where he recalled receiving “a beautiful letter” from Anthony Hopkins. He shared,

“He just loved Breaking Bad and thought it was phenomenal, and I was so touched by it.”

The Trumbo star further revealed that he and the Hannibal actor then made plans to meet up in Los Angeles and have lunch together. The Better Call Saul actor took Vince Gilligan, the show’s creator along with him for the star-studded meal. He then reminisced about the experience,

“I’m sitting there talking to one of the greatest actors ever and just in awe. You try not to be starstruck and you also don’t want to be a fanboy and say, ‘And then what about this movie? And then what about that movie?’ You want to be able to have a decent conversation. So it’s kind of nerve-wracking and exciting at the same time.”

After all, not everyone can boast of getting a fan letter from an Oscar winner.

The Father actor wrote this ‘fan letter’ way back in 2013 when the series finale had aired. Reports suggested that he binge-watched the five-season series in a two-week marathon and was left awestruck. He then went on to pen one of the sweetest letters to the actor who brought Walter White to life. In his letter, he wrote,

“I have never watched anything like it. Brilliant!

Your performance as Walter White was the best acting I have seen – ever.”

Now, Cranston’s giddiness is indeed understandable because this has to be one of the most top-tier compliments anyone could even imagine getting. The Silence of the Lambs actor further wrote,

“I know there is so much smoke blowing and sickening bullshit in this business, and I’ve sort of lost belief in anything really.

But this work of yours is spectacular — absolutely stunning. What is extraordinary, is the sheer power of everyone in the entire production.”

This is living proof of what kind of a person the 85-year-old is. A connoisseur of good art and a humble appreciative human being.
