“You go into survival mode”: Jay-Z Defended His Infidelity Using Childhood Trauma After $500M Rich Beyoncé Caught Him Red-Handed

Back in 2014, it was revealed that rapper Jay-Z cheated on his wife, singer Beyonce after a video was leaked showing Beyonce’s sister, Solange, attacking him in an elevator. For a very long time, the duo didn’t confirm the infidelity rumors but in 2016, Beyonce mentioned it in her sixth studio album, Lemonade. Roughly one year later, the rapper dropped a song called 4:44 primarily apologizing to the singer for the infidelity. Later that year, the rapper acknowledged the rumors and confirmed that they were true.
The rapper blamed it on his childhood traumas
In an interview with The New York Times in 2017, the rapper confirmed that he cheated on his wife and blamed it on his traumatic upbringing. He said,
“The hardest thing is seeing pain on someone’s face that you have caused and then have to deal with yourself. You have to survive so you go into survival mode, and when you go into survival mode, what happens? You shut down all emotions,” further adding, “So, even with women, you gonna shut down emotionally, so you can’t connect. In my case, like, it’s deep. And then all the things happen there: infidelity.”
There were also rumors spreading around stating that the two have filed for a divorce however, that was not the case. Jay-Z went to therapy and it helped him prioritize things.
